Inversion Seminar for Beginners
The legitimate concern of falling over backwards is what thwarts most people from mastering handstands. This nagging apprehension, lurking at the periphery of the psyche prevents one from fully committing to the movement. Happily, a few simple principles can ensure falling safely, even gracefully. This 3-hour course has 3 main objectives:
- Imbue participants with confidence in the skill of falling over safely
- Teach handstand progression drills for independent practice
- General pointers and principles for effective hand-balancing.
While lack of strength is rarely a limiting factor, shoulder and wrist flexibility certainly can be. Flexibility deficits cannot be immediately remedied, we will discus specific muscles that limit range of motion, and stretches to target those muscles. And, as time allows, we will explore press handstands, handstands on objects, single-arm handstands against a wall and, of course, handstand walking.
This class involves a bit of lecture, and a lot of experiential exercises, partnered work and practice. By the end of class, you may have not mastered hand-balancing, but you will have mastered falling! You will also have multiple progressions that, if practiced, will get you to the point of mastery. In addition, expect a decent workout, and a lot of fun.
